Where are the Diets Similar?
To start with, let’s look at the areas where these two diets have similarities.- Low Carb – Both diets require you to keep your overall carb intake significantly lower than the ‘average’ diet people consume today.
- Processed Foods – While not strictly banned in the Atkins diet, they are somewhat discouraged because they usually have carbs added as part of the processing. Most types of processed foods are also not permitted in the Paleo diet.
- Avoid Grains – Avoiding grains is necessary for both types of diets. For the Atkins diet, it is important because grains are high in carbs. For Paleo, it is both for this reason and because growing grains for food was not eaten by our early ancestors.
